My project is to use a "Rotary Commander" made by Sony for
there head units. The remote is a wired device using 3 conductors with
a 1/8th" head phone jack to communicate with the host. The method
of transmitting many many combinations of inputs from the joystick shaped
device is by differing resistance that can be detected between the wires.
The device contains an almost endless combination of functions
as you can combine functions by holding down more than one button, and
hence is very usefull for controlling an MP3 player device.
The wires are coloured white, red and a shield. The most important
of these are the red and the shield. I understand that if you want to
use the disc + or - you need to use the white wire also.
The white wire will measure about 60 Ohms to shield when you press the
top knob in.
The rest of the functions are accessed by measuring the resistance
between red and shield.
